“Be Patient” 2 Peter 3:9

Advent 2 “Be Patient”
December 6th, 2020 – 2 Peter 3:9

Grace, mercy, and peace be to you from God our Father and our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Be Patient (Us)
“Would you consider yourself a patient person?”
Need for patience is diminishing. We’re instant gratification.

Doctors, travel, amazon, groceries, gardening, “no-time”

Coronavirus: Impatient for end. Impatient for vaccine.

Coronavirus is teaching patience. Countering instant gratification. 2-week isolations. Waiting in lines. Putting on a mask/sanitize/questions. Can’t go on vacations, restaurants etc.

Fruits of patience: gardening, family time, putting off the things they want to do.

Define Patience: Enduring suffering without getting angry.

“Now would you consider yourself a patient person?”

Waiting for God. The Last day. His judgement. We are given Peace from God as we wait.

Peace in the form of forgiveness. Peace in the knowledge that eternal life is coming for us. We can wait. Be patient.

Long wait. When it arrives, it is too soon and came too quick. As with children growing up. Cannot wait for them to be older. Child cannot wait to grow-up. When it comes, it has come too quickly – and you cannot go back.

So with the Last Day. It will seem like it has taken forever BUT it will have come too quick for us.

For many who have had no peace, no forgiveness, no eternal life it has been grueling. The wait ends in their righteous judgement and eternal sentence to serve in Hell.

Be Patient (GOD)

Be patient with us! (As you say you’ll be).

If you were not, many who would be saved, given the time, would be damned.

We would not have a chance if you were impatient. We would sin and then die. You are not slow but wishing all to reach repentance and none perish. You are slow-to-anger and abounding in steadfast love.

Be Patient (OTHERS)

Are we to be patient with each other then? Jesus’ impatience with disciples. “He said to them, ‘O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken!’”

(Luke 24:25). Impatient with our slowness of heart and mind. Yet, patient as judge wanting all to have the time to reach repentance.

As Christians live like our God. First and foremost, not wanting any to perish but all to come to repentance. Align your will with God’s.

Patient with our children who have turned from God, but never abandoning them or refusing to continue to share the hope we have in God. Never refusing to share His Divine Judgement that is quickly coming. They need to hear it. There is time for them and yet there is no time.

You have Peace now from God so you can be patient. Patiently proclaiming His Word. As you proclaim, you will suffer as people reject you and God’s Word in their stubbornness, yet you will not be angry. Remember, patience is enduring suffering with peace. Never abandoning the task but enduring. Remaining steadfast. Having enduring love for each person, no matter how much they hurt you. God has enduring love for them even as they hurt Him.

Be Patient with God waiting for the Last Day to come. Pray that God would Be Patient with us as He promises to be. Be Patient with each other. All possible with the Peace that comes from God. Peace we have through Jesus’ blood.

That peace from God, which surpasses all understanding, may it keep your hearts and your minds to Christ Jesus our Lord.
